Custom celebration cakes: how to order the perfect one.
Every celebration in this series ends the same way — with a cake. It's the last thing your guests see, and often the thing that ends up in the photograph. Here's how to order one properly.

The corporate dinner, the wedding, the birthday in our basement lounge, the function at your home — at some point somebody dims the lights, and a cake comes out. Which makes it an odd thing to order at the last minute, from whoever happens to be nearby.
We bake ours in-house, in the same building as the restaurant, under the same kitchen standards. Here's how to order one properly.
Start with the guest count, not the design
Almost everybody does this backwards. They find a design they love, order it, and discover at the party that it feeds half the room. Decide how many people you're feeding first — the design follows the size, never the other way around.
| Cake weight | Serves approximately | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 500 g | 5 guests | A small, intimate cutting |
| 1 kg | 10 guests | A close family gathering |
| 2 kg | 20 guests | A birthday or anniversary party |
| 3 kg+ | 30+ guests | A larger celebration or event |
These are indicative averages — roughly 1 kg per 10 guests — and the right number for your event still depends on who's in the room. A group of mostly adults tends to eat less cake per head; add more children and younger guests, and portions run higher. If it's a sit-down dinner where guests have already eaten a full meal, plan smaller. If the cake is the event — an office celebration, a small gathering with tea — plan for more per head.
Then pick the flavour
Our bestsellers, in order:
- Butterscotch — the reliable crowd-pleaser, and our single most-ordered flavour
- Chocolate Truffle — for the classic chocolate lovers
- Mango (in season) — a fresh favourite whenever real mangoes are available
- Red Velvet — a little more indulgent, a popular choice for milestone celebrations
Two things worth knowing when you choose:
Mixed crowds. For a group with children, elderly guests, and everyone in between, the safest choices are the ones nobody dislikes rather than the one you personally love most.
Weather. In a Tricity summer, certain frostings hold up far better than others outdoors. Tell us where the cake will be sitting and for how long, and we'll steer you toward something that survives the afternoon.
Eggless. Most of our cakes are eggless as standard. Egg-based cakes are available, made on request.
Custom designs — what's genuinely possible
Photo prints, themed cakes for children, tiered cakes for weddings and engagements, corporate cakes with a logo, and designs built around a specific idea you bring us.
The honest guidance: bring us a reference image. Every good custom cake conversation starts with a picture. We'll tell you straight away what's achievable at your size and timeline, and where a design will need to be adapted — before you've paid, not after.
Our default finish is a cream-based cake rather than heavy fondant work — it's what we'd recommend for taste and texture. But if a design genuinely calls for fondant, we can do it; just let us know upfront so we can plan for it.
Order early — earlier than you think
This is where most cake orders go wrong. A custom cake isn't assembled on demand — baking, cooling, layering, and finishing each take the time they take, and rushing any of them shows in the final result.
- Standard cake: 24 hours' notice
- Custom or themed cake: 48 hours' notice
- Tiered, elaborate, or large orders: at least 72 hours' notice
During Diwali, wedding season, Christmas and New Year, book as far ahead as you can — these are our busiest weeks and slots fill up faster than usual.
Beyond cakes
The bakery also handles breads, desserts, and dessert platters — for the restaurant, for our catering events, and for direct orders.
If you're already catering an event with us, the dessert course and the cake come from the same kitchen as the rest of your menu. One point of contact, one standard, nothing coordinated across three vendors on the morning of your function.
